Newell Brands Associate Test Engineer - CCS Division in Huntersville, North Carolina

Job Summary:

The Associate Test Engineer will require an ambitious, motivated individual in the Research and Development (R&D) Test Lab Department. This position will:

  • Interface directly with personnel from all levels of Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Program Management, Researchand Development, Marketing, andMaterials Management

  • Demonstrate ahighlevel of technical expertiseand judgment in evaluating complex issues and developing innovative solutions

  • Maintain theability to work independently and in ateam atmosphere.

  • Exhibit a strong senseof urgency and be aggressiveand driven to succeed and to overcome allobstacles, whilemaintaining a positiveteamenvironment

Job Responsibilities:

  • BusinessAcumen – 10%

  • Identifiescost and risks at the product component level to meet defined cost targets.

  • Develops the analysis of how part leveldecisions impact the overall business strategy to facilitate design-for-cost.

  • TechnicalLeadership – 10%

  • Assists in the technical execution of projectsto provide engineering support.

  • Researches current relevant market place productofferings to understand competition and to aid in the generation of new productcritical-to-quality features.

  • ProblemSolving – 30%

  • Assists with the implementation of existingtechnologies on a project level to meet project objectives.

  • Uses a disciplined approach and multiplemethodologies to assist in analysis and determination of preferred solutions totechnical challenges.

  • Compiles test results to provide data for use insolving problems.

  • Collaborates with Engineers to develop optimalproduct test plans.

  • Communication– 25%

  • Prepares and provides project status and risksto manager with appropriate level of detail to ensure that programs stay onschedule.

  • Summarizes product test results to aid in theproduct development process.

  • Participates in forums to encourage ideation andtechnical sharing to learn best practices.

  • Supports cadence and techniques to contribute toefficient meetings.

  • OrganizationalAgility – 10%

  • Participates in cross-functional teams to workseamlessly across disciplines as required to execute product initiatives.

  • TechnicalMastery – 15%

  • Develops test methods and documentation for newproducts to testing new products wherever possible.

  • Refines and documents testing methods forexisting products to ensure consumer relevancy and scientific basis.

  • Reviews incoming test requests for completenessand compares to product performance standards to identify any inconsistenciesor ambiguities and resolves issues with requestor prior to initiating testing.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field required

  • 0-2 years in related field required

  • Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or similar

  • Demonstrates CAD abilities (SolidWorks or Pro-E preferred)

  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrates strong problem solving skills including identifying problems/potential problems and developing solutions for smooth workflow
