Position Title: Finance Manager, Japan & Korea

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Reports to: Director, Financial Shared Services

Job Summary:

As part of APAC GBS organisation, the candidate will be responsible for accounting for Japan and to a small extent, for Korea. In this role, the candidate will lead all aspect of 1) Monthly, quarterly and annual closing of books and reporting; 2) Internal Controls and Sox Testing; 3) Cash Flow maintenance; 4) Tax Compliance; 5) Audit and local statutory requirements; 6) General Ledger Accounting; 7) Accounts Receivable and Credit Control Management; 8) Accounts Payable; 9) Fixed Assets; 10) Supervision and development of GBS team; 11) Lead automation and standardisation projects; 12) Drive process improvements.

Job Duities:

  • Timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP and Corporate requirements, including month end close analysis and reporting

  • Review financial reports monthly and provide analytics on material movements

  • Prepare monthly reports as required for Business leaders to assist with timely decision-making, improve operational efficiency and profit analysis

  • Maintain and update key accounting assumptions

  • Review monthly reconciliations

  • Maintain dashboard for KPIs and reporting as required

  • Perform SOX testing semi-annually; implement remediation plans

  • Update process narratives annually

  • Work with internal auditors to strengthen internal controls environment

  • Manage key initiatives to maximize return on capital

  • Ensure timely management and submission of cash flow to assist Corporate Treasury with effective cash management

  • Work with external Tax consultants to lodge all tax returns and transfer pricing requirements on time

  • Work with the tax team to prepare deferred tax schedule

  • Work with external auditors as required to complete audit on time

  • Lodge all statutory reports and financials on time and accurately

  • Maintain clean Accounts Receivable, timely collection and cash allocation to maintain optimum DSO and minimize aged debt

  • Perform periodic review of customer credit and work with sales team to ensure appropriate credit limits

  • Maintain clean Intercompany balances

  • Ensure timely payments to suppliers in line with company policy and minimize escalations

  • Maintain high DPO and clean Intercompany balances

  • Maintain Internal Orders and Fixed Assets as per company policy and local GAAP.

  • Develop, motivate, engage and train staff members to contribute effectively. Create a world class team by inculcating positive behaviors and promoting a culture of continuous improvement

  • Supervise staff members and their work effectively

  • Identify and implement best practice financial processes and procedures

  • Lead standardization, automation, process improvement initiatives and new system roll outs to improve efficiency and productivity

  • Automate Finance processes including accruals, IC reconciliation, Tax returns and reporting

  • Maintain insurance policies, corporate credit cards, submit surveys on time

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years in general accounting with supervisory role

  • Experience with Chartered Firm or multinational corporations; experience of working in matrix environment

  • Experience with SAP

  • Good MS skills

  • Good written and spoken English, native level Japanese

  • Experience of system implementation is preferred
