Primary Purpose of Position:
The Staff Accountant will be a key resource in the monthly financial close for the Gaming Division. This person will also be responsible for processing and accounting for royalties, commissions, sales/use tax coordination, intercompany accounting, and other general accounting functions. Accountability, accuracy and timeliness are critical to their success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
General accounting leader for broker commissions and royalties ensuring completeness and accuracy of reporting and payment calculations, working closely with contract administration to ensure timely processing of data changes, and ensuring appropriate approval of disbursements.
Sales and use tax leader, extracting data from our ERP and sharing with our third-party provider, confirming timely and accurate filings of returns and managing external state audits.Coordinates filing of Canadian GST/HST returns.
Leader for intercompany accounting between entities within Gaming Division and with Newell corporate parent including reconciliation of balances and timely processing of intercompany payments. Research nature of charges as needed.
Prepare and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP impacting all areas of the business.Complete account reconciliations. Prepare support templates required for loading to Newell corporate consolidations tool (HFM).
Responsible for posting of T&E (travel & entertainment) expenses to the ledger and analysis of expenses.
Reviews and documents existing processes, recommending opportunities to streamline and standardize.
Supports internal and external audits, sales and use tax filings and federal tax filings.
Performs such individual assignments and ad-hoc analytical reporting requests as management may direct.
Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for assigned responsibilities.

BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
3+ years of experience, preferably in corporate accounting environment or public accounting
SAP experience preferred
Advanced MS Excel skills, managing spreadsheets, and using advanced formulas
Strong knowledge of US GAAP
Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy
Ability to problem-solve, self-start, prioritize work to meet deadlines, and follow through
Positive, pro-active work ethic with high level of integrity
