Job Summary:
The Outdoor and Recreation (O&R) segment products enable outdoor, backyard, and indoor fun and memories including tents, coolers, beverage ware, apparel, and more. The Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) Engineer drives product cost improvements while maintaining five star rated products. If you enjoy highly visible roles that drive bottom line improvement while partnering with Brand, Engineering, Sales, Finance, and Suppliers this role is very fulfilling!
This position will:
Own the identification and completion product cost savings that generate 1%+ reduction of annual cost of goods.
Partner with O&R cross functional technical and business teams to:
lead regular ideation sessions to develop a robust pipeline of cost reduction.
evaluate ideas for technical feasibility, business impact and return versus effort.
generate alignment to move projects through the approval process.
develop timelines for projects.
establish recurring team meetings and communications to drive projects.
collaborate with engineering on design and manufacturing processes.
navigate barriers to complete execution of projects.
conduct monthly VAVE business reporting.
Meet with other Newell VAVE leaders to find and execute best practices.
Embody Newell values including ownership, execution, and teamwork.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
5+ years of engineering experience
2+ years of leading cost reduction or VAVE experience
A passion for driving business results.
Able to constructively challenge norms/beliefs while building rapport with peers.
Proven experience execution multiple projects at the same time.
Basic understanding of product cost and financial return models.
Demonstrated success working in a matrixed organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading a portfolio of VAVE savings more than $1+ M/year
Diverse background of earlier roles
Experience with:
manufactured product and contract manufacturing with a diverse international supplier base.
plastic molding, metal forming, textile industry, or manufacturing assembly.
Influencing cross functional peers.
consumer product design, manufacturing, or testing.
Able to travel by air up to 15% to visit domestic and international suppliers as needed.
