The Industrial Engineering (IE) Manager will be responsible for leading our manufacturing design and layout initiatives, as well as driving continuous improvement (PEAK) efforts within our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial engineering principles, with a focus on optimizing manufacturing processes, layouts, and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity. The candidate will work on cross-functional teams to coach productivity tools and processes across Newell Supply Chain. Continuous improvement efforts will focus on making sustainable gains in OEE, quality, safety, cost, and delivery. Methods for achieving and sustaining improvements will be based on Newell PEAK principles including Six Sigma, TPM and LEAN. The IE Manager will need to collaborate closely with the PEAK team on improvement methodology, as well as segments, factory, and other internal partners to achieve the project objectives aligned with the business needs. The team member will be responsible to carry out projects of a broad nature while exercising considerable judgment and creativity. The team member needs to be able to carry out appropriate financial analysis to validate/support proposals and gain support of key stakeholders. The Industrial Engineering Manager will play a key role in driving operational excellence and achieving business objectives through strategic planning, project management, and implementation of best practices.

Specific Responsibilities

Drive Continuous Improvement & Productivity Savings Projects

• Lead and manage the industrial engineering team responsible for design, layout, and reimagining manufacturing and distribution centers to support business growth and strategic objectives.

• Develop and implement strategies to optimize manufacturing and distribution processes, workflows, and layouts to improve efficiency, flexibility, and scalability, reduce waste, and increase productivity.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, logistics, and supply chain, to understand business requirements and identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.

• Responsible for identifying, chartering, and leading significant Industrial Engineering and improvement initiatives - delivering the project results on time.

• Conduct detailed analysis of current manufacturing and distribution operations, identify areas for improvement, and develop innovative solutions to address inefficiencies and bottlenecks.

• Ensure team follows the project management/PEAK process to provide project updates to the site leadership team and project stakeholders highlighting the current status, adherence to the project time plan, work accomplished, quick wins, points of escalation, elements of risk and the associated mitigation plans.

• Utilize Newell PEAK tools and methodologies to drive sustainable operational improvements.

• Utilize advanced modeling and simulation techniques to evaluate alternative layouts, workflows, and automation solutions and assess their impact on key performance metrics.

• Subject Mater Expert for Newell on cell process design, site layout design, and ergonomic workspace design.

• Champion continuous improvement initiatives by applying lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other best practices to drive operational excellence and achieve cost savings.

• Lead and facilitate PEAK events and cross-functional improvement teams to identify root causes of problems and implement sustainable solutions.

• Develop and Standardize Industrial Engineering materials, including training material, templates, scorecards, tools, playbooks, etc.

• Train and mentor engineering staff on industrial engineering concepts, methodologies, and best practices

• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and performance metrics to track progress, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.

• Professionally challenges current and/or traditional ways of thinking and lead new ways/approaches.

The Candidate

The successful candidate must be technically competent within a supply chain vertical with a willingness to being hands-on and comfortable with tactical execution while working on projects of strategic importance.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree

• 5-8 years’ experience in industrial engineering roles within manufacturing and distribution environments or in a Central Supply Chain type role, with a focus on facility design, layout, and continuous improvement.

• Strong technical expertise in industrial engineering principles, methodologies, and tools, with a passion for reimagining operations and driving transformative change.

• Expertise in CAD software and layout design tools, with the ability to develop and visualize innovative solutions to complex problems.

• Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) is highly desirable.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights and recommendations.

• Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate teams, drive change, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing business requirements and priorities.

• Strong project management skills

• Working knowledge of Continues Improvement (PEAK) including TPM, Lean, and Six Sigma strongly preferred

• Proficiency in areas of general business administration: organizational design and communications, economics, finance, etc.

• Creative, reliable, organized, adaptable, flexible, innovative, and a self-starter

• Computer literate (including mastery of all Microsoft Office Suite)

• Customer service orientation

• Ability to travel up to 75% to Supply Chain locations across the US and Internationally
