Position Title: Director, US Federal Tax
Location: Atlanta, GA
Reporting Manager: VP, Tax Global Reporting and Compliance
The Director – US Federal Tax will lead all aspects of the Company's domestic federal income tax function, including oversight of the consolidated federal tax return and the US Federal tax provision, support the US federal controversy, manage calculations supporting both internal and external transactions.
Oversees the overall domestic tax compliance process, including domestic estimated tax payments, and the Federal tax compliance.
Manages the co-sourcing compliance engagement with the third-party service provider.
Oversees the senior manager in charge of the US federal tax provision process including the current and deferred provision for the US entities, documenting and maintaining all the US federal uncertain tax positions, and documenting and analyzing realizability of US federal tax attributes.
Oversees the senior manager in charge of the US international inclusion items impacting the federal provision and tax return.
Directs the preparation of work papers and tax returns to ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations. Responsible for writing tax memos in order to document the Company's tax positions when appropriate.
Interpret and provide guidance on any new US federal tax laws that impact the tax return or the provision.
Analyzes and reviews accounting books and records to determine tax issues and recommends solutions based on findings.
Directs any change of accounting methods for the Company which drives significant cost savings to the Company.
Provides advice and counsel on audit responses, settlement opportunities and strategy. Serves as a resource to the Controversy leaders for federal and state in resolving audit issues.
Participates with acquisitions to help ensure they are structured in a manner that minimizes taxes.
Liaises with the tax planning director and team members to provide support for US federal matters or data in support of acquisitions, dispositions, tax planning projects.
Collaborate with the transfer pricing director to ensure contemporaneous documentation aligned with filing of the tax returns and support of data the team may need, as well as to understand the US to US transfer pricing strategy to ensure optimization of expenses and benefits.
Liaise with both the State director and US International planning director to ensure planning and strategy achieves a result that works for all and not just in a silo.
Manage both US cash taxes and worldwide cash taxes for quarterly reporting and planning.
Manage and develop direct and indirect reports.
Collaborate with director peers to show leadership to the tax team and collectively help drive team initiatives.
12+ years of experience in public accounting, corporate tax and/or accounting at a firm, or company operating in a complex, global environment required.
At least 10 years of experience with interpreting tax laws, technical documents and government regulations.
Experience interpreting and communicating technical tax issues to non-technical internal or external clients.
Experience in managing outside consultants and budget-related issues.
At least 10 years of experience in federal tax.
At least some experience in accounting for income tax.
Experience with MS Office Suite.
At least 5 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics
CPA, JD or Master's Degree in Taxation
