The Associate Test Engineer position will require an ambitious and motivated individual for a role on the Writing Business Unit Research and Development (R&D) Test Lab Department. This position will be responsible for the development and execution of new test protocols for the Writing Division, research into and evaluation of new test equipment and will participate in the daily running of the test lab. This role will interface directly with personnel from all levels of Research and Development, Quality, Regulatory & Compliance, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Marketing.

The Associate Test Engineer position will require an ambitious and motivated individual for a role on the Writing Business Unit Research and Development (R&D) Test Lab Department. This position will be responsible for the development and execution of new test protocols for the Writing Division, research into and evaluation of new test equipment and will participate in the daily running of the test lab. This role will interface directly with personnel from all levels of Research and Development, Quality, Regulatory & Compliance, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Marketing.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Develops test methods, test fixtures and documentation and applies automation to testing new products wherever possible for consumer relevant tests.

  • Investigates existing testing methods to ensure consumer relevancy and scientific basis.

  • Reviews incoming test requests for completeness and compares to product performance standards to identify any inconsistencies or ambiguities and resolves issues with requestor prior to initiating testing.

  • Uses a disciplined approach and the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the preferred solution to technical challenges.

  • Partner with Product Engineering team to develop optimal product test plans to validate design.

  • Partner with Test Lab Technicians to perform and execute test lab requests.

  • Review completed test reports from test technicians to ensure data integrity and consistency.

  • Participate in and perform Gage R&R studies to validate equipment and test methods across multiple lab locations.

  • Identifies new technology to execute testing more efficiently.

  • Review and provide training on current test methods and test equipment.

  • Partner with labs within the business to ensure test methodologies and results are aligned.

  • Gain cross-functional alignment on testing deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field required

  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience in product testing required (Consumer products experience preferred)

  • Hands on Experience using a range of test equipment and devices. Direct experience with standard Universal Testing Systems (e.g. Instron) a plus.

  • Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise and judgment in evaluating complex issues and developing innovative solutions

  • Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

  • Demonstrates CAD abilities (Creo preferred)

  • Demonstrates proficiency lab software, e.g. LabVIEW, and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrates evidence of strong problem-solving skills including identifying problems/potential problems and developing solutions for smooth workflow

  • Maintains the ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere
